MOORESVILLE - Robert Thurston "Shirt" McNeely, 88, of Cedar Street, Mooresville, died Saturday, Dec. 4, 2004 at Lake Norman Regional Medical Center.
Born August 12, 1916 in Mooresville, he was the son of the late C.P. and Lucy Goodale Thurston McNeely. He was president of Colonial Frozen Foods of Kannapolis for over 40 years. He was a veteran of WWII where he was a major in the U.S. Air Force and a POW, a lifetime and very active member of the Cattleman Association and helped with Meals on Wheels.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances McNeely and his sister, Jane McNeely Wheeler.
He is survived by his children, Robert Thurston McNeely Jr. of Mooresville, Alice McNeely Smith and husband Brent of Hickory, Lucy McNeely Hastings of Mooresville, and Mary Frances "Missy" McNeely Lowrance and husband, Mickey of Kings Mountain; sister, Lucy Crouse of High Point; brothers, C.P. "Bo" McNeely and wife, Peggy of Mooresville and Asa McNeely and wife, Miriam of Salisbury; grandchildren, Robert Thurston McNeely III, David Kilpatrick McNeely, Cyrus Burdette McNeely, Melanie Smith Gray, Meredith Smith Johnson, Ryan Brent Smith Jr., John Mark Hastings Jr., Benjamin McNeeely Hastings and Mary Cameron Lowrance and great-grandchild Landyn Gail Gray.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, December 8, 2004 at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Fred A. Coates officiating. Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at Glenwood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends following the funeral service in the church parlor.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to First Presbyterian Church, 249 W. McLelland Ave., Mooresville, NC 28115.
