As a descendant of early pioneers to the Trading Ford area, I am highly disappointed that the town of Spencer continues to ignore this critical historical area. The proposed race track and housing on the site of an American Civil War battlefield (the Battle of Yadkin River Bridge) and earlier pioneer and native American settlements will destroy valuable historical access and educational opportunities for generations to come.

I have visited Rowan and Davidson counties and was immediately impressed with the beauty of the area -- the same beauty and opportunities that drew my German and Quaker ancestors to the area in the 1770s. It becomes more difficult to find untouched areas with over-zealous developers trying to make a buck as they destroy historical landmarks.

I urge the Spencer Zoning Board to consider other sites for development than the Trading Ford area, and to find ways to preserve their history by making this area a landmark for which people would visit and learn about their American and Native American heritages.
