I am calling upon people who cherish their Southern heritage to stand in defense of the preservation of the Trading Ford, a place where Southern men gave their lives in the Revolution and the Civil War in order to protect their homeland. Their sacrifice has made the Trading Ford sacred forever.

Few communities can meet our boast -- to have a national treasure still largely untouched that we can pass on to our children. Please show your support of the cause of historic preservation as you have in the past and attend the public hearing on the conditional use permit for the race track today at 7 p.m. at the Spencer Municipal Building, 600 S. Salisbury Avenue.

I love racing, but I love my American heritage far more.
