Brief Club INTL plans grand opening Friday

The old Legacy Club has been transformed. Tomorrow, Salisbury's newest night spot, Club INTL, 200 Klumac Road, will have its grand opening.

General Manager Angela Short says that the she wants the new club to appeal to a more diverse group of customers.

"We'll have show bands and some local bands," Short says. The club will feature beach, blues, rock and country.

"It won't be just a hip-hop place like it used to be," she says. "Many people didn't care for the music before.

"Now, there will be something for everyone. We want it to be a place for anyone to come. I just want it to be a nice, fun place where people can have a good time."

The club has had a facelift over the past month. There's a new raised dance floor. The bar area is smaller, but there are now two bars instead of one.

Artists, including Susan Vasquez, have been at work transforming the walls with murals (like one of a city skyline) and faux finishes.

Short, who has owned the Carriage Room for three years, worked at the Legacy Club on the weekends for the past two years. When owner Doug Holmes called and asked her if she would be interested in managing a new club with Nicole Holmes, she was up for the challenge.

The club will be open 7 a.m.-2 p.m. Thursday-Saturday. The Carriage Room will provide food each night Club Intl is open.

Tonight, the club will have a membership signing party. One-year memberships cost $10. Members must be at least 21 years old.

Memberships from the old Legacy Club will be honored, Short says.

Tomorrow night, the Fantastic Shakers will perform at the grand opening. There will be several contests, including a pool tournament and a bikini contest. The best-dressed beach couple will win a Myrtle Beach weekend.

The club also has a skateboard and bike ramps in the rear parking lot, which were built for a skateboard competition last summer.

"Kids love it," Short says.

The ramps are open to the public, but parents need to come to the club and sign a consent form before their children can use the facilities, Short says. There is no charge to use the skate park.
